The life of Baloch Film industry is not so long. Balochi movies can be counted on finger tips. Newly produced movie, Balochabad is a new entry in Balochi film industry. Shakir Shad with his talented team have enthusiastically worked hard for making this film . His movie ‘Balochabad’ shows his curiosity and sublime efforts for Balochi films.
However, the aim of a movie as a genre of literature is to reflect a society, and lambaste its follies and appreciate its goodness. As a bad luck would have it, most of the states have been using movies as a tool to misrepresent existing entities for their self interest and mainline their manifesto to the people. In the same manner, consciously or unconsciously, Balochabad movie supports the narration of the ruling state about Balochistan.
Balochabad movie misrepresents Baloch society, and it masquerades the reality of colonial narration of the state about women backwardness by attacking on Sardari system.
The state has structured such kind of colonial discourses to show sardari system as main cause of Baloch women backwardness. In fact, the actual cause of Baloch women backwardness and illiteracy is not sardari system but the state, which has denied rights to Baloch women.
The present context of Balochistan is an illustration of state‘s savagery to the women. Correspondingly, Balochistan history mirrors that state has been degrading and discouraging Baloch in every walk of life. But, in Balochabad movie, the reality is reversed, one can see that state is struggling to build schools, stop early marriages and provide fundamental rights to Baloch women, whereas sardari system is a restriction on the way of it.
Similarly, In Balochabad movie, Baloch psyche has been misrepresented, as one can see Sardar Taj Mohammad {Baloch Sardar} takes his daughter {Jan Bibi} out from his house. It is a kind of misrepresentation of Baloch culture and Baloch psyche. In reality, a Baloch can kill his daughter because of her transcending his forefather culture and traditions but it is unimaginable in Baloch society for a man to take his daughter out from his house and leave her in loneliness. One cannot ascertain such kind of incident in Baloch history.
It should be clear that the purpose of this written piece is not to defend sardari system at any way. As we know that sardari system is promoted by the state. For a society a state is a God that can construct and deconstruct any kind of structure. The current sardars of Baloch society are no more than puppets of the state.
A script writer and director should be conscious and honest on what he represents. Bacause, it mirrors a life or society to the world.
