Balochistan is one of the fortunate regions of the world for its natural resources, but unfortunately, people of Balochistan are deprived of many fundamental human rights which is disturbing. One of the very basic facilities, the province lacks, is access to proper telecommunication services. Almost, seventy per cent people of Balochistan do not have access to telecommunication services and internet connectivity, which has caused multifold troubles to people of far-flung areas. However, it needs to be solved on priority basis.
No doubt, internet plays a great role in studies and this pandemic has shown us its importance. The tens of thousands of students, enrolled in different public and private universities in Pakistan, belong to the rural areas, are in a quandary due to the fact they cannot go back home because of no or poor internet services. They are compelled to spend their vacations in their hostels because of on-line classes.
Moreover, I am a student at a public college from Turbat, Balochistan. On daily basis, I had to face uncountable hassles back home, even searching for a single college project was a far cry for me owing to poor net connection.
Eventually, I decided to move to Hub city aiming for better, quality education and to overcome all problems. Althought, it is not feasible for everybody– specially girls– to convince their parents and get permission to turn to other cities for their studies. How would they do then?
Additionally, there are thousands of people, including me, who struggle to even make a single phone call in their home due to network disruption. We have to wait for months to listen back from our families. In fact, lack of network access is one of the main reasons many doctors and governmental officers refuse to give duty in Balochistan’s far-flung areas.
So, it is my humble request to concerned authorities to take immediate action and provide network connections to all areas of Balochistan so that people can live a convenient life and students like me can continue their education in their hometowns.
