Every movement in the world had a strong political force to fight with the oppressors. It is necessary for a revolutionary movement to mobilise the people and gather them through political parties for such a big goal. Every movement, that has been successful in the history, consisted of different strong fronts, like mass party, militant organisations and student organisations.

As same in Balochistan, which was forcefully annexed to Pakistan on March 27, 1948, the state has snatched the rights from people to live and it crack downed on it in past. From 1948, the state has vanished or tried to divert the uprising movement against it. If we look at the first four insurgencies of Baloch, the state has launched massive attacks on them. They could be political parties or the military front.

As we can take the evidences of a full on crackdown on Baloch nationalists, including the mass political parties of Baloch nation after 90’s. As same, we have witnessed ban on the prominent student organisation in Balochistan or over Asia, The Baloch Students Organisation (BSO). And there were no right of freedom or right of expression against these state atrocities which have been practicing in the region for past seven decades.

After 2010-2015, after a full on crackdown on Baloch organizations, there were nothing left for Baloch nation to fight against these state oppression. After 5 long years, again the political movement and new organisations born to fight for the Baloch rights, one of which is Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC).

BYC was formed in 2020 which has been working on the issue of enforce disappearances in Balochistan – on of the major issues in the region. It has been 4 years since BYC is fighting against the extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances, but last year it held a march from Turbat To Islamabad and the national gatherings on July 28 (2024) and January 25 (2025) also referred to as “Baloch Raji Muchi” and many other huge protest and rallies.

Recently, we have seen a crackdown on BYC’s central members including Mahrang Baloch, a political activist. Starting with Bebarg Baloch, a central member of BYC, who was abducted along with his brother by state agencies from their home early in the morning. A day later, BYC called for a protest rally in front of Balochistan University, Quetta, to raise voice against the abduction of the central member.

As the participants gathered for the protest, the Quetta police and military forces cracked down and fired bullets, tear gases and water canons on them. Due to this shelling, 3 persons were killed including a 12-year-old Niamat Ullah. After that, the police tried to vanish the protest and took away the organiser of BYC, Mahrang Baloch.

After that, a series of protests took place in different cities of Balochistan including Karachi. And the police used crackdown on every protest and in Karachi it took Sami Deen, who is also a central member of BYC. From these events we can see that the prime targets of state are the BYC leadership and its members. Because they are facing the consequences for speaking and struggling for the entire Baloch nation, ultimately, it becomes our primary goal to stand with them at our best. Because it is the BYC working as a mass party in Balochistan, which can have bigger impacts in times to come.
